Frequently Asked Questions

These questions apply to the 2023 summer concert season, and about volunteering at those concerts and other Windsor events.

Q: What will I be doing as a volunteer?

It’s easy. We set up a booth. We put up instructional signs on the recycling bins that show what gets recycled where. About every half hour, we walk around and using long tongs, we move things from one bin to another so they are in the correct bins. Like we take aluminum cans out of the trash pin and put them in the recycling bin. When people ask questions, we answer them. Then we take a break and rest… Listen to the concert. Snack.

It’s really pretty easy, and we will show you what goes where.

You can wear vinyl gloves if you want, and you’ll have a long trash grabber that will help pick up stuff so you don’t get dirty.

You will have a yellow vest so you look official, and which identifies you as an important member of our team.

Q: How do I sign-up?

Q: If I’m on a team, how long is my shift?

We try to use 2-hours shifts, but it is pretty loose. The concerts normally open pre-concert at 5pm and shut down at 8pm, so it’s 3 hours. However, we realize this is a volunteer effort. So we ask that you show up at 4:30-5pm at our booth at the Town Green, and work however long you want until you need to go. It takes till about 8:15pm to bring all the signs back in.

Or you can come when you can and leave when you have to.

So, the best thing is to arrive at 4:30-5pm, and then go till 8pm. When you need a break, take a break. Get a beverage at one of the bars, use the facilities when you need, and come back and stay as long you can.

The greatest need is when people use the bins, which is around 6 pm, during the band breaks, and at the end of the concert. Basically, we want the cans to have the right stuff in the right place.

Q: Where do I show up?

There is a WLW booth to the right of the band stand.

Q: How much am I paid to volunteer?

According to tax laws, we are not allowed to give or pay you anything, since you’re not an employee. We’ll give you one of our cups if you want, and get you dinner. You are a volunteer, and mostly we thank you for donating your time. You have made a difference for Windsor and the recycling effort!

Q: What COVID or mask regulations do I have to follow?

You have to follow the regulations in place from Sonoma County or Town of Windsor. We do not have any special regulations in this regard. Right now, no masks or any other precautions are necessary.
